‘Confiscation’ tops 1st Nowruz box office

Mehran Ahmadi’s 'Confiscation' boasts top gross of Nowruz screenings in the first week at Iranian cinemas.

According to a Thursday media report, the flick clinched the top spot among movies that went on show during the first week of Nowruz screenings starting March 14 in Iranian cinemas across the country.

The film gross 8.5 billion-plus rials in the first week of screenings while the total gross for all seven movies currently run at Iranian theaters amounts to 21 billion-plus rials.

Produced by Mohammad-Hossein Ghasemi, the comedy is currently being screened in the Iranian cinemas.

Set in the US and Armenia, ‘Confiscation’ is a comedy film that follows the story of a SAVAK (Iran's security service before the Islamic Revolution) agent escaping to the US after the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

The feature-length comedy stars Reza Attaran, Houman Seyyedi, Babak Hamidian, Mehran Ahmadi and Mir-Taher Mazloumi.

Nowruz starts with the beginning of spring in Iran where people hold ceremonies for the onset of the season.

Festivities for the Persian New Year started March 20, 2018 with Iranian cinemas hosting a selection of movies during Nowruz holidays.
